Is Shyness Your Excuse?

Fr. Mike helps us break down the barriers that may keep us from evangelizing. He points out that the best way to spread the gospel is just by being yourself, and leading people to Christ in your own way. Sometimes the greatest witness is a quiet one.

I learn something wonderfully beautiful from Father Mike Schmitz every time I listen to him. Thank you Father for sharing The Faith.

Most people within the four walls of the Catholic church, have not been adequately catechized. How can one evangelize when one has not been adequately catechized?

    • Maureen Evers

Actually, the Church teaches that catechesis is the second part of the conversion process, not the first. Evangelization is what we are all called to do as baptized Christians, and it is not dependent upon our knowledge of catechesis (although good catechesis can be helpful). Some of the most effective evangelizers in Christian history have had very little catechesis. Think of the many childhood saints such as St. Bernadette and St. Joan of Arc. Some saints were even illiterate and had very little knowledge of the faith, but that did not stop them from sharing the good news of Jesus Christ and helping to bring others to faith through their story. All a good evangelizer really needs to do is share the story of how Jesus has made a difference in his or her life. The resources for an adequate catechesis will be there when a person needs them, but effective evangelization tills the soil so that the seed of catechesis can take root.

Michael Voris is just one voice against the long-standing teaching of the Church. Even St. Thomas Aquinas would agree that there are not one but three ways God is revealed to us, and truth is only one of those ways. Goodness and beauty are also important ways God is revealed to us.

Thanks, love watching your talks. I am extremely quiet and reserved with anxiety disorder, so i keep a few small stone pocket crosses in my pocket and when the spirit moves me i just hand them out. So far it has been a positive experience.

I was so moved by your Dad’s comment and your response. My heart was struck with “Let Jesus be Jesus and you be you”. Thanks for yet another powerful message through your videos. Blessings!
