SHOWNOTES

Let these Scriptures minister to your heart:

THE PSALMS

Psalms 9:18 – But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish.

Psalms 25:3No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to shame, but they will be put to shame who are treacherous without excuse.

Psalms 25:5 –  Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

Psalms 25:21 – May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope is in you.

Psalms 33:18-22 – But the eyes of the LORD are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you.

Psalms 42:5-6 – Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon–from Mount Mizar.

Psalms 119:49-50Remember your word to your servant, for you have given me hope. My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.

Psalms 119:74 – May those who fear you rejoice when they see me, for I have put my hope in your word.

Psalms 119:81 – My soul faints with longing for your salvation, but I have put my hope in your word.

Psalms 119:147 – I rise before dawn and cry for help; I have put my hope in your word.

PROVERBS

Proverbs 11:7When a wicked man dies, his hope perishes; all he expected from his power comes to nothing.

Proverbs 13:12Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.

ECCLESIASTES

Ecclesiastes 9:4Anyone who is among the living has hope–even a live dog is better off than a dead lion!

ISAIAH

Isaiah 40:28-31 – Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

JEREMIAH

Jeremiah 14:22 – Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down showers? No, it is you, O LORD our God. Therefore, our hope is in you, for you are the one who does all this.

Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Jeremiah 31:17 – “So there is hope for your future,” declares the LORD. “Your children will return to their own land.”

ACTS

Acts 2:26 – Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope.

Acts 26:6 – And now it is because of my hope in what God has promised our fathers that I am on trial today.

ROMANS

Romans 5:3-5 – Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Romans 15:4 – For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

2 CORINTHIANS

2 Corinthians 1:10 – He has delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will continue to deliver us,

2 Corinthians 3:12 – Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.

EPHESIANS

Ephesians 1:18 – I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.

COLOSSIANS

Colossians 1:3-5 – We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints– the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel.

Colossians 1:22-23 – But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation– if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

Colossians 1:27 – To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Hope is in you, Hope is a person, Jesus the Messiah).

1 THESSALONIANS

1Thessalonians 1:3 – We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.  (Hope inspires us and brings about endurance).

2 THESSALONIANS

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 – May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.  (Imagine that, eternal encouragement and hope).

1 TIMOTHY

1 Timothy 4:9-10 – This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance (and for this we labor and strive), that we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, and especially of those who believe.

1 Timothy 5:5 – The widow who is really in need and left all alone puts her hope in God and continues night and day to pray and to ask God for help.

1 Timothy 6:17 – Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

HEBREWS

Hebrews 3:6 – But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. And we are his house, if we hold on to our courage and the hope of which we boast.

Hebrews 6:11 – We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure.

Hebrews 6:17-19 – Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain.

Hebrews 10:23 – Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

Hebrews 11:1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

1 PETER

1 Peter 1:3 – Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.

1PE 1:13 – Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

1 Peter 3:15 – But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect

1 JOHN

1 John 3:2-3 – Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope in him purifies himself, just as he is pure.
